Drawing (28th February 2014)

This weeks session was less drawing focused and was more orientated on Drawing Theory. In this we learned about the different elements Such as Line, colour, space, depth Tone and the rules and techniques of a composition like rule of thirds, rule of space, symmetry and simplification.

We were also tasked to use rules and techniques of a composition to story board two versions of a nursery rhyme of our choice, mine was Jack and Jill.

Sequence 1

For the first image we have Jack and Jill focused in the centre, we also have the town in the background simplified in order to put more focus on the two characters. The picture is far away from the characters to imply that the two have been traveling and are still in motion.

The second image is a POV from Jack as he tumbles down the hill. the large jack and small jill, implies distance between the two, I also used asymmetry on   the arms and legs as they do not match, this creates the feeling of chaos.

In the third and final image we have a close up of Jack crying. the lack of space around jack makes the audience feel uneasy

Sequence 2

Image one is of Jack and Jill looking towards the hill. The hill has been drawn to take up more space, specifically vertical space to make it seem like the hill is looming over them, this gives a foreboding feeling, as we think that something bad is going to happen on the top of the hill.

Image two shoes Jack falling. With jack in the bottom left corner and Jill occupying the upper right corner. we get the feeling of unbalance. This lack of symmetry gives the feeling of chaos.

Image Three shows Jack getting up whilst Jill watches. There is empty space around jack and clouds have been put near jill in order to attract focus to her. We also have Jill standing so she is higher than jack. I tried to draw her in a way to make her look much taller than she actually is (width gets smaller the higher we get, as if we are looking up at her) this makes Jill seem sinister and implies that Jack falling was no accident.

We were also asked to analyse our first 11 second animations using the rules and techniques of a composition.

This composition uses the rule of thirds as the fish and dog occupy the areas of interest near the intersecting lines, The dog being where the lines would intersect in the top left corner and the fish is where the lines intersect in the opposite corner.
